Individualized Education Program
Signal Hill School offers a continuum of services to meet the needs of children with disabilities. The individualized education program complies with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). These federal regulations require that children eligible for individualized education and related services be provided a free appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE).
It is the intent of the district to ensure that students who are disabled within the definition of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 or the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act are identified, evaluated and provided with appropriate educational services. The term “children with disabilities” means children between ages 3 and the day before their 22nd birthday for whom it is determined that individualized education services are needed. It is the intent of the school to ensure that students with disabilities are identified, evaluated, and provided with appropriate educational services.
Students with disabilities who do not qualify for an individualized education program, as required by the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and implementing provisions of the School Code, may qualify for services under Section 504 of the federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973 if the child (i) has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, (ii) has a record of a physical or mental impairment, or (iii) is regarded as having a physical or mental impairment.
The school district requires that any third-party online curriculum that is made available to enrolled students or the public complies with level AA of the World Wide Web Consortium's Web Consent Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 or any revised version of those guidelines.
